 About Us

What we do

We are a group of individuals dedicated to the Preserve, community and working cooperatively.

Who we are

We are a growing community of individuals, small staff and board of directors.

Our History

Tivoli Lake Preserve has a rich history and wouldn’t have been possible without Brother Yusuf.

 Our Projects

our grazing
project

We use a small flock of sheep to manage vegetation in Tivoli Nature Preserve.

Gardens of joy and composting

We strive for farm-to-table back to the farm so the cycle can begin again.

Workshops and events

We host a variety of workshops to engage our community.

Calendar

Join us for Garden and Compost Work Parties, where you can help us in our gardens and much more.

To view our events and work parties, check out our calendar below and click on any event to RSVP. Please note that most events will take you to a third-party registration as we accept donations on a sliding scale for some offerings.

Please note the location when signing up since we will have garden work parties at Tivoli and our Normanskill Space.

OUR GARDEN SEASON IS FROM MID-MAY-OCTOBER, AND WE USE THE WINTER MONTHS FOR PLANNING AND OCCASIONAL WALKS. THANKS FOR YOUR PATIENCE IN ADVANCE IF WE’RE A LITTLE QUIETER DURING THOSE MONTHS.

If you want to participate in our community compost drop-off program, view our compost page to learn more.

Contact Us

We are located at the Tivoli Lake Preserve.

Feel free to print any of these maps for your usage. When printing the overview map, check your printer settings to make it print like a booklet. We are constantly working to improve the signage and map system, so check back for other updates.

The Native stewards* of these lands were the Mohicans (Muh-he-Kuhn), “The people of the waters that are never still,” and the Haudenosaunee (hoe-dee-no-SHOW-nee), “people who build a house.” Additionally, none of our work would have been possible without Brother Yusuf. Read more about our history.

However, please note that the City of Albany technically owns the Preserve, which is open to all. We work on its behalf. We do not host private events, but please refer to our calendar of events listed above. While the Preserve is open to the public, the City of Albany requires that larger events request a special permit. You would work directly with the City of Albany to arrange these.

Getting here

Our farm is in the old baseball field across the parking lot from the Livingston School Apartments.

Parking is available around back of the Livingston Apartments (former Livingston Middle School) via McCrossin Avenue or at the end of Wilkins Avenue. You can also access the farm through the Tivoli Lakes Preserve with parking available on Judson Avenue.

If you have questions about the project, grazing, animals, donations, composting, volunteering, special events, bringing a group in for a group work day, please contact:

Little Free Library

We are thrilled to have a Little Free Library in Tivoli Lake Preserve. We are always accepting book donations and are actively seeking children's nature-related, ethnically diverse books.
